Common mistakes new users make

Getting started with Gojiberry is simple, but there are a few common mistakes that can slow down your results. In this article, we will cover the most common mistakes for you to avoid and to get better perfomance faster.

📩 Campaign Errors

These are the most common mistakes related to outreach campaigns and messaging.

❌ Not Creating an Outreach Agent

In Gojiberry, you usually work with two main systems:

  • The Signal AI Agent responsible for finding leads based on the ICP and signals you configure;

  • The Campaign/Outreach workflow responsible for contacting those leads through LinkedIn invites, messages, profile visits, or emails;

A very common mistake is creating only the lead-finding agent and forgetting to create the outreach campaign afterward.

Without the campaign, the platform will still find leads, but no automated outreach or contact with those leads will happen 👍

❌ Not Connecting Lead Sources to the Campaign

A campaign needs lead lists connected to it in order to perform outreach.

The more qualified leads you provide to your campaign, the better your final results tend to be.

In Gojiberry, you can connect and mix multiple lead sources to a campaign, including:

  • Leads imported directly from LinkedIn

  • CSV-imported contacts

  • Lead lists generated automatically by AI Agents based on your ICP and signals

One common mistake is forgetting to connect all relevant lead lists to the campaign. Always review your campaign setup and make sure all appropriate lead sources are included.

❌ Never Reviewing or Adjusting Your AI Messages

The AI-generated messages are created using default templates and are personalized based on:

  • Your workspace/company description

  • The pain points you provide

  • The lead’s LinkedIn profile information

If your company/workspace description contains very little information, or if the lead profile itself is incomplete, the generated messages may end up sounding too generic or lacking detail.

Because of this, it’s important to regularly monitor and adapt your messaging strategy based on:

  • Your audience

  • Your industry

  • Your ICP

  • Your reply rates 👍

What works well for one group of leads may not work for another.

If you notice low reply rates, good alternatives are:

  • Creating your own custom templates

  • Adjusting the AI prompts/templates

  • Using fixed/manual messages for certain campaign steps

Testing and optimizing your messaging over time is one of the biggest factors for improving campaign performance 😊

❌ Adding Links in Early Messages

Adding links too early in your outreach can reduce response rates and may look spammy.

A better approach is:

  1. Start the conversation naturally

  2. Build interest first

  3. Share links later in the conversation if needed

❌ Starting With Aggressive LinkedIn Limits

One of the most common mistakes new users make is increasing LinkedIn outreach limits too quickly.

If your LinkedIn account is new, has little outreach history, or is not properly warmed up yet, it’s strongly recommended to follow the suggested safety limits and start slowly.

A safer approach is:

  • Start with around 5–10 connection requests per day

  • Gradually increase limits over time

  • Monitor how your LinkedIn account behaves as activity increases 👍

Accounts that are older, already active, properly warmed up, and especially accounts with Sales Navigator usually have more flexibility and can often handle higher limits more safely over time.

Increasing limits gradually helps reduce the chances of:

  • LinkedIn warnings

  • Temporary restrictions

  • Trust/safety issues with your account 😊

🔎 Lead Finder Errors

These mistakes usually affect lead quality and AI Agent performance.

❌ Choosing Weak or Too Many Signals

Signals are extremely important because they define where the AI searches for leads.

Some users:

  • Add too many weak signals

  • Use irrelevant competitors

  • Monitor very broad activities

This can create noise and reduce lead quality.

💡 Good signals usually come from:

  • Relevant competitors

  • Industry engagement

  • Hiring activity

  • ICP-related content engagement

❌ Never Reviewing Lead Quality

Your AI Agent learns over time, but you should still review the leads being generated.

Check:

  • Are these companies really your ICP?

  • Are the job titles correct?

  • Are the industries aligned with your business?

If needed, refine your ICP, add exclusion keywords or additional criterias to be even more precise.

❌ Changing Your Setup Too Quickly

A common mistake new users make is changing their ICP, signals, or campaign messages too quickly before enough data and results have had time to appear.

In the beginning, the system needs some time to:

  • Test the different signals you configured

  • Understand which signals are generating better leads

  • Prioritize the signals that are performing best

At first, signals are usually tested more evenly. After a few rounds, the system starts giving more attention to the signals that are finding higher-quality leads more consistently.

It’s also important to remember that outreach results themselves can take time:

  • Leads may take days to accept invitations

  • Some people reply only after follow-up messages

  • Campaign performance usually improves gradually over time

Because of this, making major changes too early can make it harder to understand what is actually working and what is not.

⚠️ In most cases, it’s recommended to let the system run for several days before making major adjustments to your setup.

❌ Not Specify your targeting

A very common mistake is creating an ICP that is too broad or not giving the AI enough information about what your ideal lead looks like.

When configuring your ICP, pay special attention to the Additional Criteria and Mandatory Keywords fields.

The Additional Criteria field allows you to add a short custom instruction about the type of leads you want the AI to prioritize 👍

For example, you can:

  • Prioritize specific industries or technologies

  • Favor certain keywords or profile patterns

  • Lower scores for unwanted industries or job titles

This field is very useful for customizing targeting beyond the default ICP filters.

The Mandatory Keywords option works as a strict filter.

For a lead to qualify, they must contain at least one of the keywords you define either in:

  • Their LinkedIn profile

  • Or their company description 😊

Because of this, it’s important to use multiple keyword variations and synonyms whenever possible. Otherwise, good leads may accidentally be excluded due to small wording differences.

✅ Best Practices

To get the best results with Gojiberry:

  • Use a clear ICP

  • Choose high-quality signals

  • Write relevant messages

  • Review your leads regularly

  • Give the system time to optimize 😊

The platform is powerful, but the best results come from good setup + continuous optimization 👍
