Smart warm-up builds your mailbox's reputation by exchanging a few natural emails with other real inboxes, every working day. It's free, it's on by default, and it never uses up the emails you send to prospects.
What Smart warm-up does
Gmail and Outlook trust a mailbox that behaves like a person: it sends a little, receives a little, and gets replies. A brand-new mailbox that only sends cold emails doesn't look like that, so a lot of those emails land in spam.
Smart warm-up fills that gap in the background. Your mailbox swaps short, one-off emails with other real mailboxes on Gojiberry. Those emails are opened, sometimes replied to, and pulled back to the main inbox if they land in spam or in Promotions. Then they're archived.
None of this goes to your prospects, and none of it shows up in your Gojiberry Inbox.
ℹ️ Already used a warm-up tool?
This is the same idea: a network of real mailboxes, with opens, replies and spam rescue. The difference is that it's included, it doesn't eat your daily sending limit, and you can see exactly where your warm-up emails landed.
A mailbox on Smart warm-up shows an orange badge in Settings → Senders Accounts.
What happens each day
A few emails go out between 8:00 and 18:00, your time. Weekends are quieter, on purpose.
Each email is written for that moment. No template reused across the network.
The other mailbox treats it like a real email: opened, sometimes answered, and moved out of spam or Promotions when it lands there.
Then it's archived, so your Gmail or Outlook inbox stays clear. You may see one for a few hours before that happens.
⚠️ Don't delete them, and don't mark them as spam
If you do, you're telling Gmail or Outlook that this mailbox sends unwanted email. That works against the warm-up.
Warm-up and ramp-up are two different things
Both protect a new mailbox, and they show up next to each other. They don't do the same job.
| Gradual ramp-up | Smart warm-up |
What it does | Raises how many campaign emails you can send, from 2 a day up to 30. | Exchanges background emails with other real inboxes, to build your reputation. |
Whose emails | The ones you send to prospects. | Separate warm-up emails. Your prospects never receive them. |
Your daily limit | This is your daily limit. | Not counted. Your campaigns keep their full volume. |
Cost | Included. | Free. No credits. |
When it stops | On its own, at 30 a day. | Keeps going until you turn it off. |
💡 Keep both on for a new mailbox
Ramp-up stops you from sending too much, too soon. Warm-up gives the mailbox a normal history while that happens. You can use either one on its own.
Turn it on or off
Open Settings → Senders Accounts, then Settings & Limits on the mailbox. Smart warm-up is the second checkbox under Sending volume.
Tick or untick Smart warm-up, then click Save. See stats opens the detail panel.
New mailboxes on your own domain join on their own. The badge appears within about an hour.
A mailbox you connected before Smart warm-up existed starts unticked. Tick it and save to join.
Turning it off takes effect as soon as you save. Turning it back on takes effect within about an hour.
When you can't change it
A personal address (gmail.com, outlook.com, hotmail and the like) can't join. The checkbox is greyed out, because warm-up only works for a mailbox on your own domain.
A Done-For-You mailbox already includes warm-up, and it stays on. The checkbox is ticked and locked. Nothing to set up.
Read your stats
Click See stats under the Smart warm-up checkbox. The panel opens next to your mailbox settings.
Inbox placement is where your warm-up emails landed over the last 7 days, before any of them were moved.
Inbox placement
This is the number worth watching. It shows where your warm-up emails landed first:
Inbox is what you want.
Promotions still counts as delivered. Gmail filed it, but it arrived.
Spam is the one to act on. A little is normal for a new mailbox. A lot means the mailbox needs attention. See "If warm-up pauses" below.
Not delivered means the email never arrived at all.
The daily chart
Each day shows how many warm-up emails you sent, how many of those landed in spam, and how many you received. Empty days are normal: nothing is sent outside 8:00 to 18:00, and weekends are quiet.
Today
The panel also shows today's progress: how many warm-up emails are planned and how many have already gone out, plus how many you received and replied to. On a quiet weekend it simply says it's a rest day. Right after you turn warm-up on, it can say the day's plan isn't ready yet. That clears within the hour.
If warm-up pauses
The panel says why, in plain words, and what to do. Most of the time there is nothing to decide.
What you see | What to do |
Warm-up is running | Nothing. Leave it on. |
Smart warm-up is off | Tick the checkbox and save. |
Paused: mailbox disconnected | Reconnect the mailbox. Warm-up resumes on its own. |
Paused: access lost | Reconnect the mailbox, then contact support so we can resume it. |
Paused, and the text mentions your subscription | Warm-up comes with an active subscription. It resumes on its own once yours is active again. |
Paused: too many emails in spam | More than a quarter of this week's warm-up emails landed in spam, so we stopped, to protect the mailbox. Fix the red rows under Deliverability, then contact support. |
Paused: emails not delivered | Too many warm-up emails never arrived. Fix Deliverability, then contact support. |
Paused: sending errors | Several warm-up emails failed to send. Contact support. |
Deliverability is the section just under Sending volume. It checks the domain records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) that decide whether your emails are trusted. The setup is covered in Setting up a mailbox that lands in the inbox.
Questions
Will my prospects receive warm-up emails?
No. Warm-up emails only go between mailboxes on Gojiberry. Your campaigns are separate.
Will I see them?
Not in Gojiberry: they're hidden from your Inbox. In Gmail or Outlook you may see one for a few hours, until it's archived. Leave it alone.
Does warm-up reduce how many emails I can send?
No. Warm-up emails are on top of your campaign emails, and they cost no credits. The warm-up itself stays modest: it starts small, grows over the first days, and never sends more in a day than about your campaign limit.
I turned it on and there's no See stats link.
Give it about an hour. The link also stays hidden for a personal address, for a Done-For-You mailbox, and while your subscription isn't active.
Why is the checkbox greyed out?
Either the address is a personal one (gmail.com, outlook.com, hotmail...), which can't join, or it's a Done-For-You mailbox, whose warm-up is included and always on.
Can I turn it off?
Yes. Untick Smart warm-up and save. It stops immediately. Tick it again whenever you want it back.
Still have a question? Open the chat bubble in the bottom-right corner of Gojiberry and the team will help.
